NERMN snapshot - Soil quality and trace elements for forestry sites in the Bay of Plenty
Environmental Publication 2025/06
Prepared by: Tanya O’Neill and Reece Hill (for Bay of Plenty Regional Council
This report presents the findings from soil quality sampling and trace element monitoring, conducted between 2021 and 2024 at exotic forestry and indigenous vegetation sites across the Bay of Plenty(BOP) region.
Regional councils are required under Section 35 of the Resource Management Act (1991) to monitor and report on the state of soil resources, supporting the sustainable management of natural and physical resources in their region.
Soil monitoring data is essential for understanding how current land use activities affect soil quality and for informing any necessary changes to soil and land management practices or policies. Monitoring soil quality and trace elements not only guides local land management but also contributes valuable data for national reporting.
