Submit a forestry notice

The Resource Management (National Environmental Standards for Commercial Forestry) Regulations (NES-CF) require those undertaking a permitted activity in a forestry block greater than one hectare to give notice to Council. These activities include afforestation, forestry quarrying, river crossings, earthworks, harvesting and replanting.  

Please complete this form to submit a notification in advance of any permitted forestry activity.

If your activity is not permitted by the NES-CF, please don’t use this form.  You will need to apply for resource consent. 

WorkSafe requirements

Tree felling is hazardous work that, if undertaken for commercial gain, requires notification to WorkSafe by the employer/person controlling the workplace at least 24 hours before the work begins.  Go to WorkSafe’s website (worksafe.govt.nz) to submit your notification:  Report particular hazardous work

Please note that we share the site addresses of forestry notifications to us with WorkSafe under section 197 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

If the notice is being made on behalf of a trust, the Trustees must be named.

We collect the information provided by you on this form to process the notification and assist in managing the region’s natural and physical resources including compliance monitoring, and enforcement.

The NES-CF requires notification to us in advance of certain permitted activities, and failure to notify us of these may result in enforcement action. This form may also be used to voluntarily notify us of other permitted activities that the NES-CF does not expressly require be notified to us.

We manage this information as required by the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the Privacy Act 2020, and other legislation. It may be released to the public including in response to an information request. If you have supplied information on this form that you would like to remain confidential, please contact a council Compliance Officer to discuss.

We auto-share the information you provide on this form with the territorial authority you select as being the one in whose district you are carrying out the work. We share the site addresses of forestry notifications to us with WorkSafe under section 197 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
