Bay of Plenty Regional Land Transport Plan Bay of Plenty Regional Land Transport Plan

Regional Land Transport Plan

The Regional Land Transport Plan sets the Bay of Plenty’s strategic direction for land transport over the next 30 years. It is a statutory document that guides how transport is planned and funded across the region.

The plan brings together the transport programmes of all councils and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, that are seeking funding from central government over the next decade, including prioritised key improvement projects.

What the plan does:

  • Sets the region’s transport vision and priorities for the next 10 years.
  • Supports funding applications to NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
  • Identifies key challenges such as congestion, climate resilience, public transport access and road safety.
  • Promotes integrated planning and making the most of the existing network before investing in new infrastructure.
  • Covers all modes, including rail, roads, public transport, walking and cycling
